Coldplay was initially scheduled to perform three shows on January 18, 19, and 20, 2025, at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. It is a part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025. Tickets for these concerts went on sale last month but sold out in mere minutes. It left many fans disappointed as millions waited in virtual lines.

The situation was compounded by scalpers who hoarded tickets in an attempt to resell them at inflated prices, prompting intervention from authorities. The Maharashtra police’s cyber wing has issued a notice to the online ticketing platform BookMyShow. They demanded the implementation of strict measures, including name-based ticket sales for Coldplay’s January concerts and other events.

Tickets Reselling Scam

The notice, issued by Maharashtra Cyber, aims to protect fans from exploitation when purchasing tickets online. An official stated that there have been an increasing number of complaints across various online forums and social media regarding issues. It was encountered while booking tickets for high-profile concerts and events.

Many users reported unresponsive websites during crucial booking periods. It contributed to black-marketing practices, with ticket prices soaring to as much as ten times the original cost. Maharashtra Cyber has noted that the measures currently in place to prevent such issues are lacking.

In response to these challenges, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Bombay High Court. It aims to seek guidelines to combat ticket scalping and black marketing at major events. Particularly in light of alleged irregularities during the online ticket sales for Coldplay’s upcoming concert in Navi Mumbai. The PIL highlights the various irregularities and illegalities present during ticket sales for prominent events. It includes concerts and live shows, referring specifically to the situation experienced in September when Coldplay concert tickets became available through BookMyShow.
